History of Basketball
Dr. James Naismith was a Canadian American sports coach and
innovator. Basketball created in 1891 in a Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA gymnasium.
In 1891, under direction from Dr. Luther Gulick, the head of the School,
Naismith was given 14 days to create an indoor game. The goal of this directive
was to provide a creative and healthy indoor “athletic distraction” for a rowdy
class of students during the brutal New England winter. He struggled to come up
with a game that met the objectives of his directive. At first he thought to
bring outdoor games such as soccer or lacrosse inside. However, Dr. James
created 13 rules for this sport. He had to use soccer ball and two peach baskets
as a count. Basketball is different today than when it first started because now
they create an original ball on for basketball now the basket are more modernist
because they do not use no mere the baskets from the fruit, they get new
uniforms such like the shorts longer.
